Ambulance NB eyes new facilities

Officials with Ambulance NB say the company is accepting tenders for the construction of a new base in Fredericton and other facilities around the province.
Many of the provincial ambulance system's fleet centres, administrative offices and paramedic stations are operating out of temporary locations.
The Fredericton facility is one of several officials hope to upgrade. Ambulance NB CEO Rock Marois said the system has called for tenders around the province to help them prepare facilities that will meet the company's requirements.
"We currently have 16 (requests for proposal) on the go across the province because when we took over, we had all sorts of facilities and at some we had short-term leases because they didn't meet our needs," he said.
Isabelle Landry, community relations officer for Ambulance NB, said officials have been looking at a number of important factors when considering the new locations.
"Two important (factors) are centralized location and accessibility because of our call volumes," she said. "Location is essential to our response times. We must be located centrally and we need (to have) good access to main roads or highways."
