Mark Steeves of Moncton (left) goes over his pre-plow check-up with transportation department instructor Roy Gilmore. Steeves and about a dozen other snowplow trainees were at the Miramichi airport for snow plow training Friday. Throughout the day, they took part in a mixture of written assignments and practical experience on courses set up on sections of the airport runway. Dave MacFarlane, the program's coordinator, said the idea was to improve training by mixing practice and theory in one day, rather than separating the two over a longer period, adding the runway was an "ideal" location. After trainees complete the five-day course, final training and evaluation will still have to be done on a snowy day.
