Who is responsible for high food prices?

Letters to the editor

A7

Recently, I sent to you a letter of opinion concerning manipulation by the greedy and how it effects us, the people. I offer this opinion letter as a follow up.

Lately while shopping, I, and others I am sure, have noticed the increase in prices of food. I ask myself, is this warranted, or are these increases the result of some jackass in the U.S. predicting a rise in prices because of the flooding along the Mississippi River?

If such a prediction is indeed the reason for the increase, then why did food prices rise so fast? Is it a case of monkey see, monkey do?

If the present rates of increase persist, we're going to have to be more selective in our shopping for food in order to combat high food prices. Instead of — literally, you might say — putting all our eggs in one basket, we need to make grocery outlets compete for our money instead of taking us for granted.

We, as a people, must in some way get the retail grocery outlets to bend to our needs, rather than the other way around. I believe our two major grocery stores are not competing with each other but, are in cahoots with each other. The time has come for us to take control of our lives instead of being controlled.

It is my opinion the high prices forced upon us are the result of greed established by the "haves," not by the "have-nots."

Of course, this is my opinion, and I am sure some of your readers have a different perception than I.

Where will it all end?

The worst is yet to come.

We must not allow the U.S. to dictate our standard of living.

Respectfully,

Eddie (Rebel) Blowers
