Charges for copper theft
During the long weekend Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, Miramichi Police Force officers responded to 167 calls for police assistance.
In other police news, officers made an arrest on Aug. 25 after receiving a report from a motorist. The man was travelling along the King George Highway and witnessed a male going from hydro pole to hydro pole cutting copper ground wires.
Nicholas O'Hearn was arrested and held pending a court appearance. The 25-year-old was later released on an undertaking. O'Hearn was ordered to reappear on the Sept. 15 for plea on theft-related charges and breaching a conditional order.
NB Power was called and made repairs to the hydro poles.
Man held in custody
On Aug. 30 at 4:23 p.m.Billy Joe Stewart, 27, was arrested for breaching conditions of his temporary absence from provincial jail. During the arrest a Miramichi Police Force officer was assaulted and threatened. Two other officers were also threatened.
Stewart was held pending an appearance in provincial court and remanded into custody.
He will be appearing in court at a later date.
Alcohol related arrests
On Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11:33 p.m. MPF arrested a 24-year old man for impaired driving after a traffic stop at Route 117. A fall court date is pending. Then during the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 31, five males were detained for causing a disturbance by being under the influence of alcohol.
